Compensation: $21-25/hour

role and responsiblities

Instruction is the first layer of Tomo’s programming. Instructors should be confident in their skills and experience. Instructors will have a curriculum for clients and classes, teaching the curriculum and offering suggestions and other cues to help clients improve their skills on the subject at hand, from technical skills to abstract thoughts and ideas. Instructors will work with the Programs Manager on a crafted “experience track,” where Instructors will learn more about climbing techniques, class and time management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Greet and assist visitors

  • Efficiently handle check-ins, admission, and class transactions

  • Use time before and after efficiently for class prep, class clean-up, and debriefing

  • Learn and understand our offerings, directing people to the best options for their needs and goals, including admission, membership, and programs

  • Understand or are willing to learn and explain how to use training equipment properly

  • Solve, report, and/or escalate safety and maintenance issues

  • Assist with executing events, as needed

  • Learning and growing their knowledge surrounding climbing

  • Obtain CPR/First Aid certification

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience teaching climbing movement and technique

  • Ability to effectively communicate concepts and ideas to different learning styles

  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and point-of-sale systems or comfortable learning new software

  • Experience with Approach Climbing Gym Management software is a plus

  • Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and sometimes under pressure

  • Comfortable engaging with people you don't know from different walks of life

  • Comfortable managing large groups

  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a positive work environment
